Dr. Colombo's Clinical Promise

"Normal skin has an advantage most patients don't recognize: it can handle a serious anti-aging regimen without working against an underlying barrier issue, sensitivity, or pigment disorder. That means the protocol produces results faster and more measurably than the same approach would on more complicated skin."

The Normal Skin Protocol

Normal skin is the most underserved skin type.

Most skincare is built around fixing something — pigment, acne, redness, reactivity. Patients with normal skin are told they don't need much, which means they often don't get the benefit of a real regimen at all. Then their normal skin becomes aging skin, and the gap between them and patients who started serious protocols earlier becomes visible.

The Normal Skin Protocol is built for patients without a specific clinical concern, but with a serious interest in anti-aging results. A gentle retinoid nightly. An actives-rich anti-aging cream. The dedicated eye and neck cream that makes the difference at 40+. And the iron-oxide tinted sunscreen that protects what you've earned. Five steps that compound — and that produce results in normal skin most aggressive protocols can't, because they don't have to spend their energy correcting something else first.

Why Regimens Outperform Single Products

The science behind the regimen.

  • 01

    Why nightly retinoid

Normal skin tolerates nightly retinoid better than sensitive types, so the every-other-night schedule that's standard for more reactive skin isn't necessary. Nightly HPR delivers maximal collagen support over months, and on normal skin that translates to visible difference faster.

  • 02

Why eye and neck cream after 40

Both areas have thinner skin, fewer oil glands, and more movement than the face, so they show aging at fractional time scales. Face creams are formulated for face skin; they're too rich for the eye area and won't stay put on the neck. A dedicated cream addresses that mismatch.

  • 03

Why an actives-rich cream over the retinoid

Layering The Age Eraser over the retinoid does two things: it buffers the retinoid to reduce dryness, and it adds peptides, vitamin C, and antioxidants that work through complementary mechanisms. The combination is more than the sum of its parts.

  • 04

    Why iron-oxide tinted SPF

Plain UV protection misses visible light, which drives substantial skin aging and pigment formation. Iron oxide blocks it. On normal skin, the difference shows up over years: fewer age spots, more even tone, more preserved firmness.

The Protocol · Two Routines

Each step, and why it's there.

MORNING REGIMEN

STEP 1 Cleanse: THE WASH

"A gentle cleanse is the foundation. Even normal skin benefits from preserving the barrier — and any aggressive morning cleansing undoes overnight repair work."
- Dr. Colombo

Step 2 Protect: THE DEWY TINT SUNSCREEN

"The single most important anti-aging product in your routine. 14% zinc oxide handles UVA and UVB; iron oxide blocks the visible light that drives pigment and ages skin from sources most people never consider — screens, indoor lighting, sun through windows. The dewy tint replaces a separate primer or foundation for many patients."
- Dr. Colombo

EVENING REGIMEN

STEP 1 Cleanse: THE WASH

"Remove the day's sunscreen and accumulated environmental debris."
- Dr. Colombo

Step 2 Renew: THE REVERSER I

"Nightly HPR retinoid for collagen support and cell turnover. Normal skin tolerates nightly use better than sensitive types, which means the cumulative effect over months is substantial — and shows up faster in the mirror."
- Dr. Colombo

Step 3 Treat: THE AGE ERASER

"Multi-active anti-aging cream with vitamin C, peptides, and antioxidants. On retinoid nights this goes on top to buffer and treat; the combination is what makes nightly retinoid use sustainable without compromise."
- Dr. Colombo

Step 4 Eye & Neck: THE EYE NECK COMPLEX I

"Firming cream for the two areas that show age first. After 40, the face can look ten years younger than the neck if you ignore this step — and ignoring it is the single most common gap in otherwise-strong routines."
- Dr. Colombo

WHAT TO EXPECT

The protocol becomes maintenance, and the gap between you and untreated peers widens with each year. Normal skin on this protocol consistently outperforms its biological age.

Frequently Asked Questions, Answered

How do I know if my skin is 'normal'?

Normal skin tolerates most products without reacting, doesn't have ongoing acne or pigmentation concerns, isn't chronically dry or oily, and doesn't flush or sting in response to actives. If you have any of those concerns, one of the targeted protocols (Melasma, Sensitive Skin, etc.) is a better fit.

Should I use the retinoid every night?

Yes. That's the design of this protocol and what normal skin generally tolerates. If you find yourself getting persistently dry, drop to every other night and resume nightly once your skin acclimates. Most patients are at nightly use within 4–6 weeks.

Should I add a vitamin C serum?

Optional, and one of the best optional additions. The Booster goes between cleansing and sunscreen in the morning. Many patients on this protocol layer it in once they're comfortable with the base regimen—it accelerates results meaningfully.

Is this enough for menopausal skin?

It's an option, but Dr. Colombo's Protocol (which swaps The Phytoestro Age Eraser for The Age Eraser) is better suited to perimenopausal and menopausal skin specifically. The Phytoestro Age Eraser is formulated for hormonal changes that The Age Eraser doesn't address directly.

What if I'm in my 30s—is this overkill?

It's prevention, not overkill. Most of the visible results from anti-aging protocols come from years of consistency, not weeks of intensity. Starting in your 30s gives the longest runway. If you'd prefer a smaller starting regimen, the Minimalist Longevity Protocol covers the essentials.

Can I use this protocol during pregnancy?

Pause The Reverser I for pregnancy and nursing. The rest of the protocol is generally pregnancy-safe, but confirm with your obstetrician. After nursing, the retinoid reintroduces easily, and many patients pick up exactly where they left off.
