What Is Dr. Colombo’s Skincare Protocol?

A Dermatologist-Developed Routine for Skin Longevity

If you asked a dermatologist exactly what she uses on her own skin every morning and every night, this is Dr. Morgana Colombo’s answer. Dr. Colombo’s Protocol is the regimen she developed for herself over years of clinical practice. It is built around the products and ingredients she believes deliver the greatest long-term benefits without unnecessary overlap, excessive irritation, or missing steps. For women in their mid-30s and older, that becomes increasingly important.

We asked Dr. Colombo to explain why she created the Protocol, how the routine works, and what makes it different from a typical anti-aging regimen.

1. Why did you create Dr. Colombo’s Protocol?

For Dr. Colombo, the protocol started with the same question many patients ask her in the exam room. What would you use if this were your own skin?

“I built this routine around what I have learned through years of dermatology practice. I have seen what works consistently, what creates unnecessary irritation, and what often adds complexity without adding meaningful benefit.

I wanted every product to have a clear purpose. There should not be three products doing the same job while another important part of skin health is being overlooked. The goal was to create a complete regimen with no unnecessary steps and no major gaps.”

2. Who is the protocol designed for, and what skin concerns does it address?

“The Protocol is for women who want to take care of their skin as a whole rather than chase one concern at a time.  Everyone’s skincare journey is different, and I wanted to be mindful of that. For women in particular, most changes can become more noticeable during perimenopause and menopause. Hormonal shifts can affect hydration, collagen, elasticity, and the overall way the skin behaves.

Vidaderma protocols address those concerns together by supporting hydration, skin renewal, and long-term protection.”

3. What does each product contribute to the morning and evening routine?

Each product has a specific role within the protocol.

“In the morning, I start with The Wash. I want a gentle cleanse that removes buildup without stripping the skin. The skin has spent the night repairing itself, so I do not want to undo that work with an aggressive cleanser. Next, I use The Hydrator. Hyaluronic acid helps attract water to the skin, while ceramides help support the skin barrier. I want daytime hydration that feels comfortable and layers well under sunscreen.

The final morning step is The Dewy Tint Sunscreen. Daily sunscreen is one of the most important things we can do for long-term skin health. The zinc oxide provides mineral UV protection, and the iron oxides add protection against visible light. I also like that the tint makes it easier to wear generously and consistently.

At night, I cleanse again with The Wash. One effective cleanse is generally enough. Over-cleansing can create unnecessary dryness and irritation. Every other night, I use The Reverser I. It contains an HPR retinoid to support cell turnover and collagen. I want the benefits of a retinoid without creating constant irritation or compromising the skin barrier.

I follow with The PhytoEstro Age Eraser. This step is especially important because it was developed with hormonally changing skin in mind. It provides hydration, peptides, antioxidants, ceramides, and phytoestrogen-focused support for skin that may be becoming drier, thinner, or less resilient. The final step is The Eye Neck Complex. The eye and neck areas often show visible signs of aging earlier because the skin is thinner and has fewer oil glands. I prefer giving those areas dedicated support instead of treating them as an afterthought.”

4. Why is it important to use products that are formulated to work together?

“I often see patients using several excellent products, but when we look at the full routine, there is too much overlap. They may be using multiple exfoliating or active products while missing basic hydration or barrier support. When products are selected to work together, we can balance treatment with recovery. We can support hydration while encouraging renewal.”

5. What are the latest innovations in longevity skincare products?

“Skin longevity is not about trying to stop aging. It is about supporting the skin so that it continues to function well as it ages. Perimenopause and menopause can create significant changes in the skin. Declining estrogen can contribute to dryness, reduced collagen, decreased elasticity, and a thinner or less resilient skin barrier.

That is why I do not think the answer is simply to use a stronger anti-aging product. The skin needs hydration. It needs antioxidants and peptides. It also needs daily protection from UV exposure. The Protocol brings those pieces together.

It is all about what you do for your skin consistently, every morning and every night.”

A More Intentional Approach to Skin Longevity
